Here’s a little bit about myself. I began my hairdressing career at the age of 20. I always wanted to be a hairdresser. From a young age I was in awe of hairdressers, really looking up to them. I knew back then that that’s what I wanted to do one day.

Having relocated to the beautiful coastal town of Newquay at 19, I spent a year partying and working in a bar, when I realised I needed to start being a little more grown up and pursue my career goals. I was lucky enough to find a great local salon with an amazing boss that had the patience to teach me the skills of hairdressing.

​Spending 5 years at that salon with a 6 month break to travel Australia (taking my scissors with me of course !!!)

In late 2008 I left the salon to have my gorgeous daughter Nancy, taking a year out to be a mummy.

In 2010 I embarked on two new hairdressing ventures.
I began my teaching degree to be able to teach hairdressing in further education, a two-year intensive course. Where I gained a massive insight into gaining the necessary skills to be able to teach others, completing the teaching course and graduating at Truro cathedral. I decided not to pursue a career in teaching but I knew, the knowledge I gained from this experience, would help me in other ways at some point in my career.

Also, in 2010 I began working for myself. I was lucky enough to rent a small salon at a fabulous hotel in Porth, just outside of Newquay, where I had the pleasure of working with the nicest bunch of people.

This was my place of work for the next 8 years. During that time, I added another addition to my family, my gorgeous and very naughty little boy Toby. Operating from the hotel for all those years was a fantastic platform for me, allowing me to work in a professional hairdressing space whilst investing in my education, by attending various courses in London. One of the highest accolades was gaining a distinction in my L’Oréal Colour Specialist degree passing with flying colours at 97%.

In February 2018, I picked up the keys for my next new career challenge, a salon that I could call my very own. A dream of mine became reality.

To say I love colouring hair is an understatement. I literally fall asleep thinking sectioning patterns and creating colour formulas !!! But when I’m not being a hair colouring, salon obsessed geek, I love spending time with my family, eat lots of nice food and go shopping !!! 

Saffron – Senior Stylist ​

Saffron has been working her magic on people’s hair for the last seven years. So keen to become a hairdresser she took up an apprenticeship in a busy salon at the sweet age of sixteen.

Saffron loves working with long hair creating beautiful looks and holds the salon title for doing the best bouncy blow dries. Saffron loves to learn new techniques understanding the need and importance to keep on top of evolving hair trends.

Outside of work Saffron loves to clean, yep that’s right this lovely one enjoys cleaning!! And when she’s not busy cleaning she enjoys socialising with her friends, working out and exploring beautiful Cornwall.

Shannon - Stylist

Since the age of five I have always been interested in doing hair, so going from playing hairdressers to becoming a qualified stylist is amazing. I completed my NVQ level 2 in 2017 and my NVQ level 3 in March 2019.

My highlights so far..
1. During my level 2 I came 2nd in the Cornish skills competition at Truro college in 2016.

2. 2-day bespoke cutting workshop with Tony Wood and Micheal Saunders (Lee Stafford educators, salon owners and industry experts).

3. Attending the Cornwall apprenticeship awards in 2017 and becoming the winner of level 2 Hair & Beauty Apprentice of the Year Award. If this wasn’t amazing enough I was also the overall Apprentice of the Year winner.

I am a very friendly, chatty person who loves coming to work and being part of such an amazing team. I can’t wait for my future at Jodie Young Colour Bar and Salon where I hope to reach my full potential within the industry, and work alongside very talented stylists. ​

Sara - Apprentice

I have always had a passion for hair and beauty and I am currently loving my Level 2 apprenticeship at Jodie Young Colour Bar and Salon. Since relocating to Cornwall from London last year, I have also taken the plunge in switching up my career from being a Primary Teacher to following a desire of mine in becoming a hairstylist.

I am really enjoying learning here. I have always been artistic so it is great that I am learning skills which allow me to express my creativity and I can’t wait to gain more skills and practice techniques!

Outside of work I am loving exploring Cornwall and visiting many of the beaches on offer! I am a bit of a homebody and enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I also like to read, bake and go on long dog-walks with my partner and our beagle pup called Callie.

Bobbi – Apprentice ​

Our superstar stylist in the making Bobbi! Bobbi joined us the minute she left school, working through the summer holidays and then starting her apprenticeship.

Bobbi discovered hairdressing would be a great career path when she realised, she could combine her love of science and people.   
Bobbi loves to assist other stylists and makes their day easier!

She also loves to chat to all the regular clients making them feel very welcome. We hope when you come for your appointment you will get to experience one of her amazing head massages when you have your hair washed.

Outside of the salon Bobbi loves being with her friends, cooking, going on long walks in the countryside, swimming and knitting.

Colour specialist congress, London

A couple of days networking with fellow colour specialist, discovering the new products and talking all things colour. With superstar guest speakers 'Siobhan Jones' from Headmasters, Sophia Hilton from Not Another Salon, London and 'Skyler Mcdonald' from Skyler London.  A truly inspiring, educational couple of days.

Dublin - Stand out from the crowd seminar

An amazing day hosted by two legends of the hair industry 'Alan Austin Smith' (author of the fantastic hairdresser) and the fabulous 'Sophia Hilton' owner of  Not Another Salon, London, an amazing inspiring day and I was also lucky enough to have some fun in Dublin.

L'oreal colour specialist degree, London

After 3 months of hard, hard work, travelling to London every Monday, I got my results from the L'oreal colour specialist degree, I got 97% Distinction, I can honestly say this course has changed the way I colour and was 100% worth the blood sweat and tears and lots of laughter. ​
