What does each price level mean?
Each price band represents the level of experience and knowledge a stylist has. At every level we use high quality hair products and continually push ourselves in creativity and education to be able to offer you the best versions of ourselves as superstar stylists. After all quality haircare and a passionate thirst for learning are the foundation of all great hair creations.
Here’s a little breakdown of what each stylist level means:
Graduate stylist
Our amazing new talents have just qualified / qualifying. They have gone through an intensive in salon training programme. Budding with enthusiasm and rearing to get stuck in to hair stylist heaven.
They will take much longer compared to senior stylist level and may need help through the consultation process.
If your on more of a budget and have time on your side I would highly recommend snapping up an appointment with one of our lovely graduates.

Included in our prices at every level –
- Toners are included with all bleach work
- Fast dry and finish – We do not like to let anyone leave our salon with wet hair, and totally appreciate a blow dry is an added expense and not always required. We will happily fast dry and STRAIGHTEN or CURL your hair after every colour service even if your not having your hair cut, this way you leave with a finished look and we get to see the colour results !!! BUT please bear in mind if you require a full on blow dry with round brushes / Velcro rollers then there will be a blow dry charge.
Do I have to have a skin test for colour?
We totally get how skin testing can be a pain in the jacksie, but it is 100% necessary, we want to keep you safe so please play ball when it comes to a skin test.
When we will say no to colouring your hair.
- We will not colour anyone’s hair who hasn’t undergone an ALLERGY ALERT TEST. This must be carried out no later than 48 hours before your colour service, signed on a piece of paper and logged within our software system.
- It is against manufacturer’s guidelines to colour the hair of anyone aged 16 and under.
- YOU MUST BE HONEST and tell us if you have ever experienced a reaction to colour before.
- YOU MUST ALSO INFORM US if you have had any new Tattoos, semi permanent make up or henna tattoos since your last appointment with us, as this can cause a sudden reaction to the PPD’S contained within the colour.
- We haven’t seen you for colour in over six months.
- You are changing colour technologies.
- You require a 12 monthly routine skin test.
- Have recently had a new tattoo / semi permanent make up.
- Or experienced any allergic reactions since your last colour.
We also have the right to refuse a colour service on any hair that we feel is too weak to take a chemical / colouring service, in this case we will advise you on the correct in salon and homecare treatment plan to get your hair back on track.
How do I know which service I should have?
We understand it can be confusing trying to understand what each service actually is, here is a little description of what’s on our menu !! please don’t panic if you are still unsure, as to what is right for you as we always allow plenty of time for consultations so we can offer the right service for your hair needs and goals.
Styling services
Wash, Cut and blow dry – this is the obvious and the most popular styling service, and even if you just need a trim, it will still require the same process as a cut and blow dry.
Wash, Cut and fast finish – if your not too bothered about having a round brush blow dry and are happy to have a fast dry finished with the straighteners to smooth or curl, then this is a better option for you.
Restyle cut and blow dry – this is when your not maintaining your current look and would like to change your style, the stylist will require more time to consult with you and create your restyle.
Colouring services
Re-growth tint – an all over colour that is applied to the roots only.
Re-growth colour and tone – roots applied and then the ends gently toned.
Full head colour – A full head of colour applied to all of the hair.
Full head colour and hairline foils
Full head colour and foils
Hairline foils - A few foils scattered around the hairline and fringe area to offer added brightness around the face.
T–section foils – foils are placed through the parting and down the sides.
Half head foils – foils are placed through the parting, down the sided and half way through the back.
Full head foils – foils are placed through the parting / sides and through the back.
Colour in between foils - Sometimes you may require a colour to be added to the hair along with any foil work. This will help blend the colours together and cover any naughty grey hairs.
Balayage – this is a bespoke highlighting service, creating more of a rooted look, it can be modified to all hair colours. It can take a few sessions to perfect, but once achieved it is a very low maintenance colour option as return appointments are not needed for up to 6 months and sometimes longer.
Creative highlights
This is somewhere in between classic foils and balayage, the foils are placed in a away that brighten your root area up but without overloading the hair, resulting in a more subtle re-growth.
Balayage top up – this is for our balayage clients wanting to spruce up their balayage, offering a brighter result.
Bleach and tone under 6 weeks – a global root application of bleach applied to hair that has regrowth of no more than 6 – 8 weeks. Finished with a toner.
Bleach and tone over 6 weeks – when the re-growth goes past a certain length the bleach needs to be applied in two phases, to avoid any banding, this makes the application a lot more fiddly and takes a lot longer, therefore comes with a bit more of a price tag.
Creative tone
This is for clients that want those crazy bright colours or a pretty pastel shade. The colour is applied as a separate service either over a scalp bleach or a set of highlights.
Cleanse – sometimes we need to try and remove as much of your previous colour as we can in order to make way for a new colour, in these sort of situations we will often recommend some sort of cleanse, this will remove the colour from the hair, re – expose hidden highlights allowing to lighten further and remove the bulk of the colour build up.
Colour refreshers – becoming one of most popular services. We have kept this purposefully low in price as we know how much this is needed in maintaining a great colour. We encourage you to keep your highlight / balayage appointments to a minimum, after all the less we load bleach on to your hair the healthier your hair will be. A colour refresher will help blend in a regrowth line, keep your colour looking a natural / cool tone or intensify your colour. THEY WILL NOT LIGHTEN.
What is Bond Repair?
Once upon a time not so long ago, an incredibly clever scientist formulated a substance that us hairdressers can add to our bleaches and colours. This Liquid solution is known as ‘Olaplex’ and is nothing short of pure genius.
I think it's fair to say that this little magic potion has revolutionised the way we colour hair. Since the birth of this bad boy we have been able to offer colour services which we otherwise would not of, such as balayage’s and pastel shades that are layered over full head bleaches. This is due to the protection and repair that is offered by this amazing product and without it we just would not be able to colour the way we do.
Since Olaplex was launched in June 2014 it has found itself some healthy competition with over 42 different versions on the market.
At Jodie Young Colour Bar & Salon we choose to use Smartbond,
What exactly does Smartbond do ?
When Smartbond is added to bleach or colour it offers protection and repair to the inner structure of the hair.
Within each strand of hair are things called keratin chains, this is what gives hair its strength, the keratin chains are held together by lots of tiny bonds. When we use bleach, colour and heat on our hair the bonds get broken which in turn effect the strength of the keratin chains, which then results in the hair becoming weak and snapping.
So with the added help of this miracle solution we can bleach away and have the peace of mind that not only is the inner structure of your hair being protected from bleach any previously damaged bonds are being repaired too. Happy days.
There are 3 parts to this bonding stuff
- Step 1 – the stuff we add to your bleaches and colours.
- Step 2 – the nice smelling treatment that we use after the colour has been developed and rinsed (not shampooed).
- Step 3 – the bottle that you can buy to take home to keep the magic happening, (optional and extra charge).
How much is a Smartbond treatment?
When added to bleach - £20
When added to colour only _ £10
The reason for this price difference is because so much more product is required when mixing with bleach.
My advice –
If your ever having a bleaching service it is sooooo worth investing in this amazing product. The health integrity of the hair is not threatened and the colour results are unbelievably glossy and hair remains strong.
There are a few of services that we will not do without the company of Smartbond, these are:
- Balayage
- Creative high lights
- Global bleach and tone
- Colour correction
- End lifting
Any other bleach related colour service can be done without Samrtbond, but boy do we hate colouring without it !!!!
What exactly is bleach and is it bad for my hair?
Bleach is a legal chemical that we can use on your hair and scalp to lighten.
Bleach lightens the hair by removing the underlying colour pigment. Warmth will always be exposed however light you decide to go and this will need to be managed by toners.
For bleach to work on the hair we have to mix it with a solution called hydrogen peroxide, which comes in different strengths – 10 volume / 20 volume / 30 volume and 40 volume.
Bleach is very similar to a drill !!! Think of a drill on the hair creating lots of little holes and removing the underlying pigment.
It’s the drilling effect of the bleach on the hair that causes the hair to become vulnerable. The lower the volume of hydrogen peroxide used the slower the drill works !!! the higher the volume, the drill will work faster and more aggressively.
Bleach can sound like a scary word and some people have had bad experiences with it in the past. But we understand how it works and the correct way to use it to ensure hair is not damaged.
Our bleach promise to you –
- We always keep our hydrogen peroxide strength low, we believe in lightening the hair slowly, creating minimal damage to the hair.
- We NEVER use heat on the hair to speed up development as this will cause unnecessary damage.
- We encourage big breaks between your bleaching appointments, offering you colour refresher sessions to manage the tone.
- We will always recommend Smartbond with your bleach in order to maintain good condition through the bleaching process.
- We will say no to bleach on your hair if we believe your hair is too damaged. We will offer you treatments and a homecare plan in order to get the hair strong again.
- Having bleach on your hair requires looking after, its not just down to your stylist to do everything correctly, it requires consistent homecare. We will prescribe your hair with the right homecare products in order to maintain healthy condition.
By us respecting bleach, mixing and applying it correctly and you taking good care of your hair at home will ensure that all potential dangers of the chemical are avoided and your love affair of having lighter hair can continue !!!!
Where do I park when I come to the salon?
I understand what a total nightmare it can be to park when your visiting the salon, especially in the busy summer months.
We suggest if you're coming in for colour work that requires bleach, so highlights and balayage that you get dropped off or if you can, walk to us. As these types of appointments take a minimum of 3 – 4 hours. Why not leave the car at home and then you can enjoy a mini bottle of wine or two from our drinks menu and not have to worry about the stress of parking.
However I understand that this is not always possible to do and there will be time’s that you need to park your car, so
this is how we are trying to help you:
We will take 5 % off your bill to contribute towards the cost of your parking . In order to receive your 5 % discount you will need to either,
- Screen shot a photo of your parking ticket, clearly showing the date and time of purchase.
- Show us your purchase through your parking app on your mobile.
We strongly recommend downloading the ‘just park’ parking app on to your smartphone. This will allow for you to pre pay and extend your parking time, should you need to. It connects to most of the council operated car parks in Newquay.
The nearest council car park to the Salon is Albany Road, which is located at the bottom of Tolcarne Road, just opposite the back of the police station. This car park is FREE after 4pm all year round and FREE from 1st of November to the 30th of March.
The other car park that we suggest parking in is the Train Station, which is opposite the salon and is the closest. This is privately owned and slightly more expensive compared to the council owned car parks. But you have the luxury of not having to walk too far !!! And if your parking time runs out a member of staff will run across and extend your parking for you.
We hope our 5% service discount helps contribute towards the added cost of parking, just remember to show us proof of purchase in order to get money off your bill.

We require models for a range of things, it's not always for crazy way out colours or seriously short restyles. We operate a strict in-salon training programme whereby the assistants have to learn from the basics up so all hair types are required.
